Open Access in APS Journals
At APS, we're committed to supporting the transformation to open access and open science while maintaining high-quality peer review and ensuring equity for researchers, to the benefit of the scientific enterprise.
We launched our first fully open access journal in 1998, and in 2011 we transformed some of the largest, most-cited, and most-trusted peer-reviewed, primary research titles in physics into hybrid journals by offering the option to publish individual articles open access. Since then, we have expanded our offerings by launching a number of new hybrid and gold open access titles, including the highest-impact open access journal in physics, Physical Review X, and the related collection of highly selective, open access topical journals, such as PRX Energy, PRX Life, and PRX Quantum.
Since 2014, we have been experimenting with institutional open access agreements, which facilitate the open access publication of articles submitted by authors affiliated with participating research institutions.
