APS brings together physics department change leaders to collaborate and network while advancing physics education.

APS supports physics departments by providing opportunities for department leaders, staff, and students to network, collaborate, and advance the physics community.

The APS Thriving Physics Department Symposium

Come together with physics department change leaders June 11-13, 2024, at the University of Chicago for an impactful gathering focused on community-building, knowledge-sharing, and actionable insights to tackle shared challenges. This event combines the APS/American Association of Physics Teachers Department Chairs Conference and the APS Graduate Education Conference to build on the past successes of these conferences and expand their impact.

Departmental change leaders from across the physics education community will be in attendance at this pilot event, including:

  • Physics department chairs
  • Effective Practices for Physics Programs (EP3) Initiative members
  • Physics graduate education directors
  • APS Bridge Program faculty members
  • Teams from APS-IDEA
