The Gordon & Betty Moore Foundation Fundamental Physics Innovation Awards (FPI)
From 2018 until 2023, APS partnered with the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation Fundamental Physics Innovation Awards to support bringing people together to discuss and collaborate on innovative ways to use emerging technology to address pressing problems in the physics of fundamental particles and interactions.
Establishment and support
Inaugurated in 2018, the FPI Awards were funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, with APS Innovation administering the awards. The goal of these awards was to To help stimulate new ideas and create innovative technologies to explore problems in fundamental physics.
The grants awarded fell into three categories of funding: Lectureship Awards for seminar presentations, Visitor Awards for longer collaborative interactions, and Convening Awards to support small scientific meetings. APS selected the recipients based on recommendations from an external scientific advisory board.
