APS: Origins and Adolescence

APS was founded at the turn of the twentieth century as a haven for “pure physics.” That mission shaped its first few decades. This talk with Joseph D. Martin examines the founding and growth of APS in its early years, examining how the manner in which it was established shaped its development through the first decades of the twentieth century, amid widespread changes in the American physics community.
