Augusto Ghiotto
University of California, Berkeley

"For the discovery of a continuous metal-insulator transition and quantum critical behavior in Moire transition metal dichalcogenides."

Augusto Ghiotto received his B.A. in physics and mathematics from Columbia University in 2016 and earned his PhD in physics also from Columbia in 2023 under Abhay N. Pasupathy. Working in collaboration with the groups of James C. Hone, Cory R. Dean and Lei Wang, his contributions are in transport measurements of twisted transition metal dichalcogenides, leading to the observation of correlated insulators, electronic instabilities, and quantum critical phenomena tied to metal-insulator transitions. Ghiotto is currently a Miller Fellow at University of California, Berkeley, working with James G. Analytis.
