Citation:

"For the groundbreaking development and application of screened hybrid density functional and ab initio methods to the accurate modeling of molecules and solids."

Background:

Gustavo E. Scuseria is the Robert A. Welch Professor of Chemistry, Professor of Physics and Astronomy, and Professor of Materials Science and NanoEngineering at Rice University, in Houston, Texas, USA. He received his undergraduate and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from the University of Buenos Aires in 1979 and 1983, respectively. His main research field is computational quantum chemistry, an area where he has contributed to the development of new methodologies and their application to molecules, solids, and nanoscale systems. He is the author of more than 520 publications that have received close to 100,000 citations. He is a Fellow of the American Chemical Society, American Physical Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Guggenheim Foundation, and Royal Society of Chemistry. He has received numerous awards including Camille and Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar, Feynman Prize in Nanotechnology Theory, Humboldt Research Award, Boys-Rahman Award from the Royal Society of Chemistry, and ACS Award in Theoretical Chemistry. Scuseria was co-Editor of the Journal of Chemical Theory and Computation published by the American Chemical Society between 2006-2021. Current research in the Scuseria group focuses on novel methods for electronic structure theory, particularly strong correlation. His contributions have been incorporated into widely distributed quantum chemistry software packages used in academia and industry.
