We do not have a formal policy as such, but because we are a small program and know all of our graduate students personally, we have allowed leave time on numerous occasions to our students for family and personal issues.

Yes, and yes.

All of our graduate students are personally known by the graduate faculty, all of whom are concerned about the personal and individual success of each of our students. All of our graduate students are considered an integral part of our departmental staff and instructional effort in helping our undergraduate students. Our graduate students participate in all of our departmental colloquium and public outreach events and know our faculty on a first-name basis.
