AGL Mentor Training Workshops

AGL Mentor Training Workshops

December 5-8, 2022
12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. ET

Effective mentor relationships have been shown to be a key component in advancing the next generation of researchers. APS, in collaboration with the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER), will host a virtual Mentor Training workshop from December 5-8, 2022. The research mentor training component is offered as four two-hour sessions of interactive virtual training with two highly skilled facilitators.

This highly interactive workshop will be open to 24 women and gender minority graduate students and postdocs who are selected through an application process.

Topics that will be discussed in the workshops include

  • introduction to evidence-based mentor training,
  • aligning expectations and maintaining effective communication,
  • addressing equity and inclusion,
  • fostering independence,
  • promoting research self-efficacy, and
  • developing and articulating a mentoring philosophy.

CIMER is a leader in STEM mentor training and has trained thousands of facilitators, mentors, and mentees across the country. CIMER’s work is rooted in evidence-based mentor and mentee training methods where trainees learn how to align expectations, cultivate ethical behavior, foster independence, and maintain effective communication.

The activities within AGL are open to individuals who do not identify as cisgender men. We encourage participation of cisgender women, gender non-binary individuals, and transgender individuals.
