Time and Location: Talk starts at 1:00 pm with Q&A to follow. It will be held in one of the first floor conference rooms at the American Center for Physics, One Physics Ellipse, College Park, MD. This is located off River Road, between Kenilworth Ave. and Paint Branch Parkway.

Abstract: The presentation will provide an overview of the commercial nuclear energy industry in the United States and the basis for the increase in interest and growth of new nuclear plant activities. The discussion will cover in detail new nuclear plant activities, the industry’s approach to dealing with used nuclear fuel and the long-term R&D and prospects for the industry.

Biography: Adrian Heymer is the Executive Director, Strategic Programs, at the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) in Washington, DC, USA responsible for integrating the industry’s strategic policy and technical programs. Until recently, he was the senior director responsible for coordinating the nuclear industry’s generic activities on new nuclear plants. Other responsibilities at NEI have included electricity deregulation, plant performance improvement, risk informed regulation and quality programs.

Prior to joining NEI he worked in support of Nebraska Public Power District’s Cooper Nuclear Station, Nebraska, as an engineer and manager, at Lloyds Register on technical certifications and served 16 years in the Royal Navy.
