The Forum on Education announces the kickoff of a Fundraising Challenge to finish endowing the Excellence in Physics Education Award. As an incentive for success, the Forum will match individual donations one-for-one up to a total of $15,000. The FEd’s Excellence in Physics Education Award was established in 2007 after a successful appeal to FEd and APS members raised enough money to endow the award itself. However, the endowment is not sufficient to pay for the winners’ travel to the APS April meeting where they give invited talks. The Forum has been covering travel out of its annual budget from APS, but that is not a sustainable funding model for the long term. The goal of the Fundraising Challenge is to raise$65,000 by the end of 2018. This will fully endow the award so that we can continue to honor excellence in physics education year after year.
