Established in 2016, the objective of the Forum for Early Career Scientists (FECS) is to enhance APS's ability to meet the needs of early career scientists, to offer them support services, and to provide them with an opportunity for increased inclusion and participation in the activities and decision-making of the physics community.
The forum’s main purposes are to foster scientific communication and cooperation between early career scientists working in different fields all over the world to promote career path development.
Researchers working in the early stages of their careers, including physicists, engineers, mathematicians, and scientists of other related fields.
Integration of early career scientists into the broad community of physicists working in academic and non-academic fields, including industry, national laboratories, related STEM fields, and non-STEM fields, both nationally and internationally.
The executive committee is happy to announce that the FECS is collaborating with the Forum on International Physics (FIP) to award 8-10 travel grants to excellent foreign students to allow them to present their work at the APS March or April meeting in 2019. As many of you realize, these annual APS meetings are important events to launch careers, and we recognize that many students don't have the resources to take full advantage of this wonderful opportunity. Between 8-10 grants will be awarded to deserving young scientists at a value depending on their perceived needs. If you are, or know of, an excellent, foreign undergraduate or graduate student planning to attend one of the APS meetings we encourage applications through the APS web site. More information on the awards can be found on the FIP webpages.
Please note that the deadline for submission of applications is September 8, 2018.
