Multiple levels of insurance are available and additional options include 2-person coverage (spouse, child, or domestic partner) and family coverage. Insurance is not included in stipend.

Carnegie Mellon's Department of Physics fosters a collegiate atmosphere and strives to help every student succeed. Semi-weekly happy hours allow graduate students and faculty members to socialize and interactions outside of individual research groups are encouraged. Informal women-in-physics lunches are supported by the department. Recent faculty hires include two award-winning female researchers. As of Spring 2013, we have 35 tenure-track and research-track faculty available to serve as research advisors and mentors; 7 of these (20%) are female.
