My name is Ian Kretz, and Im from the Rio Grande Valley in south Texas. I attended the Science Academy of South Texas in Mercedes, which has won numerous national awards for educational excellence and has been featured in Newsweek magazine twice, where I was able to concentrate mainly on a study of mathematics and physics.
In high school, I was vice-president of my schools Mu Alpha Theta chapter, a member of our All-State medaling UIL Literary Criticism team, Drama Club president, and historian of our National Honor Society chapter. I also competed in UIL Math, Number Sense, and Ready Writing.
In August, I will be moving to Houston to attend Rice University, where I will pursue a double major in mathematics and physics. I am a member of Wiess College at Rice. (TEAM WIESS!!!) In college I plan to get involved with the ongoing physics research at Rices new Brockman Hall, attend physics symposia, and participate in ongoing mathematical research in the VIGRE program.
For career goals, I intend to enter graduate study with a concentration in theoretical physics and hope to participate in active research focused mainly on a theory of quantum gravity.
