Prize Recipient

Russell John Wallace
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

Citation:

"For outstanding theoretical work, computational design and analysis, and experimental work leading to quantitative and predictive understanding of the Rayleigh-Taylor instability in high energy density plasmas."

Background:

Russell Wallace received his B.S. degree in physics from California State University, Northridge in 1975 and his Ph.D. degree in physics and materials science from the University of Southern California in 1983. Preceding his Ph.D., he was a member of the technical staff at the Rocketdyne Division of Rockwell International involved in various aspects of the development of large scale laser systems. Following his Ph.D., he joined the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as a post-doctoral research staff member working on the modification of surfaces by means of direct energy sources and the study of the rapid solidification phenomena of metals and alloys. Subsequently he joined the Nova Laser's Target Science and Technology program as a Materials Scientist/Physicist. Currently he is the leader of the Target Development and Fabrication group with responsibility for the identification and resolution of target related materials, fabrication, and characterization problems within the context of Nova target fabrication.
