Citation:

"For innovative integration of statistical physics and dynamical systems theory to predict behavioral states and ensemble dynamics of living systems across multiple scales, an outstanding problem with broad applications in biological physics."

Background:

Antonio Carlos Costa is currently a Junior Research Chair postdoctoral researcher at the Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris, where he leverages connections between statistical physics and dynamical systems theory to bridge between multiple scales in complex biological systems. He received his Ph.D. from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where he worked with Dr. Greg Stephens on animal behavior across scales. During his Ph.D., he also collaborated with Prof. Tom Shimizu on building effective models of nematode motility. Before his Ph.D., Antonio received his MSc degree in Theoretical Physics from the Universiteit van Amsterdam, and his BSc in Physics from the University of Coimbra, Portugal.
