"For her work in the theory, experimental demonstration, and clear explanation of a method using an RF dipole for overcoming intrinsic spin resonances in polarized proton acceleration.
Mei Bai received her B.E. in engineering from University of Electronic Science & Technology of China in 1989. She earned her M.S. in accelerator physics from University of Science & Technology of China in 1992. In the next two years, she worked for National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory, a 800 MeV electron storage ring facility. In 1994, she came to the United States and entered the Ph. D program of Indiana University. Two years later, she went to Brookhaven National Laboratory to work on her Ph. D thesis. She conducted her thesis research at the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron under the guidance of Prof. S. Y. Lee, and Dr. Mike Syphers and Dr. Thomas Roser are her local advisors at BNL. In 1999, she received her Ph. D from Indiana University in 1999. Her thesis ``Overcoming Spin Intrinsic Resonance By Using an RF Dipole'' centered on an novel method of avoiding depolarization due to intrinsic spin resonance by adiabatically exciting a large coherent motion. Currently, she is a Research Associate at BNL and working on the project of using RF dipole for linear & non-linear beam dynamics studies and spin manipulation at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider.
