Yuan Cao

"For pioneering discoveries of strongly correlated physics in twisted bilayer graphene."

Background:

Dr. Cao graduated from University of Science and Technology of China in 2014 and obtained his M.S. and Ph. D. degrees from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2016 and 2020 respectively. Dr. Cao is currently a member of the Junior Fellows in the Society of Fellows, Harvard University. Dr. Cao's research is mainly focused on the quantum transport in 2D materials, especially moiré superlattices. His renowned works include the discovery of superconductivity and correlated insulator in twisted bilayer graphene in 2018. Dr. Cao has won a number of awards including "Nature's 10" in 2018, "Physics Break Through of the Year" in 2018, 2021 McMillan Award and APS Greene dissertation award in 2021.
