Topic: Down-to-Earth Searches for Cosmological Dark Matter

Abstract: Can we detect the Milky Way's dark matter halo in a laboratory experiment? If so, it would be a spectacular confirmation of modern cosmology, and would re-write the standard model of particle physics. A global campaign of such direct-detection experiments is rapidly exploring many theoretical models, and this talk will review where we stand and what may lie ahead, with emphasis on the LUX and LZ experiments.
Biography: Dr. Carter Hall is an associate professor of physics at the University of Maryland.
