Community Engagement Manager

Reporting to the APS Director of Membership, the Community Engagement Manager plays a central role in the association's member-driven digital content and member engagement strategy. Focusing on value and engagement, the Community Engagement Manager takes strong ownership of the success of online community tools and in person interactions between APS, its members, Units and Local Links. Travel to national, unit and some local link meetings as required throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the activities of APS communities and the interactions between its members.
  • Engage with the online community by programming posts that will drive conversation, connect members with shared interests, and identify and recognize top contributors.
  • Gathers, reports, and analyzes usage metrics. Recommends strategies to increase member engagement on Higher Logic platform and within the Communities.
  • Develops and manages orientation training for online Higher Logic Communities.
  • Work with the Recruitment & Retention Manager to plan and execute the Annual Leadership Convocation.
  • Promote APS services to students and early career members at APS meetings.
  • Manage local link networking groups and their volunteers to ensure effective communication between APS and groups.
  • Provide guidance for new Local Links organizers, based on prior assessment of other Local Links groups.
  • Other computer or non-computer related tasks as required, i.e, Excel (charts and graphs), Word, Power Point.

Qualifications

Education: BA/BS degree or equivalent work experience. A background in science/science organizations not required but a plus.

Certification: CAE or PMP a plus.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Two years association components/chapters experience preferred.
  • Experience growing communities using online tools (Higher Logic and Salesforce a plus).
  • Proficiency with all Microsoft Office Suite products.
  • Proficiency with Google Docs and other online shared document products.
  • Must be comfortable working with, and drawing meaningful conclusions from, quantitative data.
  • Must be able to work on multiple deadlines at one time.
  • Strong organization, documentation, and prioritization skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to quickly changing schedules.
  • Ability to work well with interdepartmental teams as well as independently.

Work Environment

  • Most work performed in an office environment.
  • Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal.
  • Incumbent may use keyboards, telephone and other office equipment.
  • Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching maybe required in completion of job responsibilities.
  • Flexible work hours to accommodate the time differences for meetings and events as requested.
  • Ability to lift multiple boxes up to 20 lbs. when packing and shipping for meetings.

Travel

Position may require up to 25% business travel annually to attend meetings and events.
