Candidate Statement

The American Physical Society brings leadership with a responsibility to the discipline of physics on a global scale. We promote the very best science and benefit from active international membership and participation in our APS programs. One of the most important of these is the suite of APS journals which has challenges in facing a transition to open access. My professional experience covers a broad range of condensed matter physics with collaborations both domestic and international. These include scientific achievements as well as administrative responsibilities. I aspire to ensure that APS committees and leadership have a broad representation without prejudice over our diverse subfields and that there be opportunities for graduate students, postdoctoral and other researchers from diverse communities. And finally, that all APS members have an opportunity to play a role in science education at all levels, most importantly with active international participation.
