Student Speaker Award2010 March Meeting of the APS
March 15‑19, 2010
Portland, OR

Every year the Group for Statistical and Nonlinear Physics sponsors a Student Speaker Award at the March meeting of the American Physical Society. From the nominated talks GSNP chooses 5 students finalists to speak in a special award session at the March meeting. A committee selects a winner at the meeting. In 2010 the winner will receive a cash prize of $1000 and each finalist will receive $300.

The deadline for nominating a graduate student for the 2010 GSNP Student Prize Award is Friday, Nov. 20, 5:00 p.m. EST. Nominations, including a letter from the nominator, the abstract of the student's talk and the student's cv, should be sent to gsnp@mailaps.org. The abstract of the student must also be submitted to the APS as a regular contributed talk.

2009 Winner and Finalists:

Five student finalists were selected to give their talk at the GSNP Student Award session.

The finalists were Natalie Arkus (Harvard U.)
Kipton Barros (Boston U.)
Tom Haxton (U. Pennsylvania)
Jordan Horowitz (U. Maryland)
Mya Warren (U. British Columbia).

The winner this year was Kipton Barros.

2008 Winner and Finalists:

Five student finalists were selected to give their talk at the GSNP Student Award session (Session H39 at the 2008 March APS meeting).

Sharon Gerbode, Cornell University
Luca Giomi, Syracuse University
Carl Modes, Univ. Pennsylvania
Andrew Missel, UIUC
Matthew Paoletti, Univ. Maryland

The winner was Matthew Paoletti, University of Maryland. Matthew will receive a $1000 cash award. The rest will receive $200 each.
