May 14-16, 2008
Virginia Tech
Blacksburg, VA

The Physics Department at Virginia Tech would like to announce an International Symposium, on "Complexity in Materials far from Equilibrium" which will take place at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA, May 14-16 2008. The purpose of this interdisciplinary Symposium is to bring together researchers with common interests in complex materials and in nonequilibrium statistical physics in order to discuss cooperative phenomena far from thermal equilibrium. The meeting will mainly (but not exclusively) focus on:

  • Statistical mechanics of jammed matter
  • Driven systems, e.g., colloids and vortex matter
  • Complexity in living and nonliving matter
  • The glass transition
  • Physical aging
For the organizing committee: Michel Pleimling (michel.pleimling AT vt.edu)
