The Group on Nonlinear and Statistical Physics of the APS hosts a Gallery of Images at the annual March APS Meeting.

The concept is simple: GSNP members can submit either a poster or a video that has to do with statistical or nonlinear physics. The entries will be judged on the basis of scientific and aesthetic merit; the winners of the competition will be announced at the business meeting of the GSNP on Tuesday of the meeting. The 1st prize winners in each category (posters and videos) will receive a $500 cash award. In addition, the winning poster entries will be printed in color in the December issue of the journal Chaos. We anticipate that the winning video entries, as well as the winning poster entries, will appear online at the Chaos website. And they will be displayed at the November meeting of the Division of Fluid Dynamics. During the March Meeting, the entries will be displayed in the poster area, including video entries, which will be on continuous loop.

Posters must be brought to the gallery and fit in a space of 4' by 4'.

Video entries should be no longer than 3 minutes and less than 20 MB in size. Video file must be one of the following formats: .AVI, .MOV, or .MPG. Recommended video settings are MPEG4 (Divx,Xvid) format 720X480 at 30FPS. They should begin with a short sequence identifying the authors, institutions, title, and acknowledgments.

The deadline for submission is February 12, 2010.

If you are not already a GSNP member, you can join at a cost of $6. Join online

This should be a lot of fun, so please join in.
