University of Akron

Citation:

"For outstanding productivity in research on semicrystalline, liquid crystalline, and high performance polymers."

Background:

Stephen Z. D. Cheng received his Ph D in polymer chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1985 and spent an additional two years there as a postdoctoral fellow. In 1987 he joined the faculty of the University of Akron in Ohio, where he is presently research associate at the Institute of Polymer Engineering. He is also an honorary professor of polymer science at Chengdu University of Science and Technology in China. The recipient of the Presidential Young Investigator Award in 1991, Cheng's research interest lie primarily in the solid state of polymeric materials.
