Howard Georgi
Harvard University

Citation:

"For his pioneering contributions toward the unification of strong and electroweak interactions, and for his application of quantum chromodynamics to the properties and interactions of hadrons."

Background:

Georgi received his Ph D in particle physics from Yale University in 1971 and spent five years at Harvard University as a research fellow before joining the faculty as an associate professor of physics in 1980. He is presently a full professor of physics -- chairing the physics department from 1991 to 1994 -- and editor of Physics Letters B .
