Workshop at Argonne Apr. 20‑21 on the Application of dielectric wakefield accelerators to next generation x-ray free-electron laser facilities

X‑ray free‑electron lasers (FELs) are expensive instruments and a large part of the cost of the entire facility is driven by the accelerator. The use of a high‑energy gain dielectric wake‑field accelerator (DWA) instead of a conventional accelerator may provide a significant cost savings and a reduction of the facility size. It may also be used to increase the capacity of the FEL facility as more than one DWA can be used in a single accelerator tunnel to feed multiple FELs lines.
