Citation:

"For her thesis entitled "Bio-Inspired Nanophotonics: Manipulating Light at the Nanoscale with Plasmonic Metamaterials."

Background:

Yang Zhao is a postdoctoral scholar at the Materials Science and Engineering Department at Stanford University under the supervision of Professor Jennifer A. Dionne. She received her Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, under the supervision of Prof. Andrea Alu in 2013. Her research interests cover theoretical, numerical and experimental explorations on plasmonics, metamaterials and nanoantennas, with a focus on novel nanophotonic phenomena and devices, and applying them to sense, image and study biological interactions. Highlights of her work include designing nano-optical antennas and metasurfaces for polarization filtering, conversion, chirality sensing and optical tweezing.
