Modifications to the APS Division of Fluid Dynamics Bylaws
The DFD Executive Committee and the APS Council have recently approved proposed changes to the DFD Bylaws, and now, as a final step, we seek the approval of the DFD membership for these relatively minor changes. Voting on the DFD bylaw changes is to be conducted simultaneous to our election for new DFD officers.
The proposed changes to the current bylaws, with alterations indicated via track changes, are available HERE. The clean version of the proposed DFD bylaws is available HERE.
A summary of the proposed DFD bylaw changes is provided below:
- Addition of the Corrsin Award Selection Committee and a description of its responsibilities.
- The current Ad hoc Committees on Media and Science Relations and on Educational and Career Outreach are proposed to become DFD standing committees, with the names “Media and Science Relations Committee” and “Education and Career Committee”, respectively. Responsibilities are outlined in the bylaws.
- The roles of the DFD vice chair and chair-elect have been slightly altered to reflect current practices, which have been found to be more efficient than in the past.
- Codification of ex officio, non-voting membership on the DFD Executive Committee by editors/AEs of the relevant APS and AIP journals. This has been a frequent practice in the past and is now proposed to be codified in the DFD bylaws.
- Other minor clarifications and modifications have been made to reflect DFD committee processes more accurately.
If you have any questions on these proposed bylaw changes, please contact the DFD chair, Ann Karagozian.
