Information Unavailable

Is there a family leave policy for graduate students? If so, describe.

There is no official family leave policy, however, our department (Physics and Astronomy) has granted extended leaves in individual cases. The Graduate School is considering adopting a formal policy.

Is there family health insurance for graduate students? If so, is it included in the stipend?

The Tufts Graduate School pays 100% of the required student health insurance and 100% of the required health service fee for all doctoral students in their first three years. Family coverage is also available.

Please describe why someone applying to graduate school who is interested in a female-friendly department should choose your department.

As an institution, Tufts University is strongly committed to diversity in all its forms, including increasing the representation of women in science and engineering. The Physics/Astronomy department shares that commitment, as the ratio of female/male students indicates. The modest size of our graduate program means that each student is treated as an individual and evaluated and guided on the basis of his or her abilities and performance.

Has the institution had a Climate for Women in Physics Site Visit or Gender Equity Conversation?

No
