University of New Mexico

How many tenure-track or tenured faculty -- male/female?

29/4

How many graduate students-- male/female?

110/21

How many post doctoral associates - male/female?

12/1

Is there a family leave policy for graduate students? If so, describe.

No formal dept policy, cases handled individually

Is there family health insurance for graduate students? If so, is it included in the stipend?

Health insurance is included for all grad students. Students may opt to cover spouses and dependents at their own cost.

Please describe why someone applying to graduate school who is interested in a female-friendly department should choose your department.

We have a good fraction of female grad (and undergrad, by the way) students, as well as at least one female faculty member in each of the three professorial ranks. We care about work & life issues - example: several years our Dept. Administrator (female) was nominated for an annual, university-wide Work+Life Manager/Supervisor Award.

Has the institution had a Climate for Women in Physics Site Visit or Gender Equity Conversation?
