Is there a family leave policy for graduate students? If so, describe.

There is not a formal family leave policy for graduate students for the College. The Department works to accommodate this on an individual case basis.

Is there family health insurance for graduate students? If so, is it included in the stipend?

Health insurance is provided and paid for by the College for those who receive a stipend; this expense is paid by the College and not deducted from the stipend.

Please describe why someone applying to graduate school who is interested in a female-friendly department should choose your department.

* The university has an active SMU Graduate Women's Organization, and more information on this is available at their website at:

http://www.smugradwomen.blogspot.com/

* The Department also has an active Society of Physics Students (SPS) Chapter which includes both undergraduate and graduate students. The gender mix in this organization is relatively balanced; 3 of 7 of the SPS officers are women. More information on this organization is available on the web at:

http://www.physics.smu.edu/~scalise/SPS/

Has the institution had a Climate for Women in Physics Site Visit or Gender Equity Conversation?
