How many tenure-track or tenured faculty -- male/female?

65 tenured/tenure-track faculty. Of these, 7 are female and 58 are male.

How many graduate students-- male/female?

160 graduate students, 30 female and 130 males.

How many post doctoral associates - male/female?

47 Postdoctoral associations, 9 women and 38 men.

Is there a family leave policy for graduate students? If so, describe.

Yes, both male and female students are able to take leave of absence for up to three quarters for family obligations. Students that are employed as Teaching Assistants qualify for paid-family leave.

Is there family health insurance for graduate students? If so, is it included in the stipend?

Yes, it is not included in the stipend. It is an option for student to purchase insurance for their spouses and dependents.

Please describe why someone applying to graduate school who is interested in a female-friendly department should choose your department.

Our department has made significant efforts to recruit more female faculty in both Physics and Astronomy. Our Astronomy population is close to 50/50 for both faculty and students in regards to male & females. We support the endeavors of our female graduate students as well as our undergraduate students.
