Is there a family leave policy for graduate students? If so, describe.

Yes, but they must pay for it on their own.

Is there family health insurance for graduate students? If so, is it included in the stipend?

Yes, but they must pay for it on their own.

Please describe why someone applying to graduate school who is interested in a female-friendly department should choose your department.

Our department and the College of Engineering and Sciences has worked very hard to foster a warm and friendly atmosphere for women who choose to come here. WE have a very active women's group composed of female faculty, graduate and undergraduate students. We meet three times every quarter for a lunch and make presentations for the group on topics important to women in the sciences and engineering. This gives the women a chance to voice their fears, any problems, and to give advice where needed. I have found this forum to be most helpful for me and my career.

Has the institution had a Climate for Women in Physics Site Visit or Gender Equity Conversation?

No
