Family leave is required by state law.

Is there family health insurance for graduate students? If so, is it included in the stipend?

Graduate students have individual insurance coverage in addition to their stipend. Family health insurance is under discussion.

Please describe why someone applying to graduate school who is interested in a female-friendly department should choose your department.

The department is very supportive of women at all levels - undergraduate and grad students, postdoctoral fellows, research scientists and faculty. We frequently send female students to relevant conferences and they have, in turn, made suggestions to improve the climate for gender diversity.
