How many tenure-track or tenured faculty -- male/female?

25 male, 5 female (includes one joint appointment with EECS)

How many graduate students-- male/female?

55 male, 19 female

How many post doctoral associates - male/female?

20 male, 5 female

Is there a family leave policy for graduate students? If so, describe.

Yes. Students on TAs or university fellowships are guaranteed six weeks paid parental leave following a birth or adoption if they are the primary caregiver.

Is there family health insurance for graduate students? If so, is it included in the stipend?

Yes, family health insurance is available, but the additional cost is not included in the stipend.

Please describe why someone applying to graduate school who is interested in a female-friendly department should choose your department.

We have taken several steps to improve the climate for graduate students in our department. We sponsor a monthly lunch for the graduate students, which I and our Director for Graduate Studies attend. We have constructed a graduate student lounge. I have appointed a Climate Committee which serves as a sounding board for the graduate students.
