How many tenure-track or tenured faculty -- male/female?

14 faculty, 3 female and 11 male

How many graduate students-- male/female?

26 graduate students, 8 female, 18 male

How many post doctoral associates - male/female?

8 postdocs, 2 female and 6 male

Is there a family leave policy for graduate students? If so, describe.

UMass has a Personal Leave Policy that covers all
areas - family, health, unexpected circumstances ...

Is there family health insurance for graduate students? If so, is it included in the stipend?

Yes, family health insurance is available for
graduate students. It is not included in the stipend.
however, if the student is employed as a TA or RA
at least half-time, the student pays only 10% of the cost.

Please describe why someone applying to graduate school who is interested in a female-friendly department should choose your department.

The Department and University are striving to increase
the number of female faculty and graduate students. The
University is part of the Five College Astronomy Department
where faculty from the four colleges in the consortium,
ncluding two women's colleges, are members of the graduate
faculty (thus the graduate faculty consists of 14 male and 5
female faculty).
