There is no formal policy, although several students, both male and female,
have had children while graduate students in the last 10 years.

Is there family health insurance for graduate students? If so, is it included in the stipend?

Yes, but it is not included in the stipend.

Please describe why someone applying to graduate school who is interested in a female-friendly department should choose your department.

We have an active community of women astronomers at all levels, from directors of observatories, to undergraduates. We have an active women's group in the department, in addition to mentoring programs for women science students on campus.
