Is there a family leave policy for graduate students? If so, describe.

We have a general leave policy. Graduate students may take a leave of absence from the program for any personal reason. We work with students to help accommodate any needs they have.

Is there family health insurance for graduate students? If so, is it included in the stipend?

Additional insurance is available for dependents. In addition, there is Oregon Health Plan (OHP) - The Oregon Health Plan (OHP) operates under a waiver from the federal government that allows to serve more low-income people using federal Medicaid money. This is done through an innovative system that prioritizes health care, using a list of hundreds of conditions and their treatments. Higher priority is given to conditions that can be successfully treated, and to avoiding illness through preventive care.
Additionally, students might be eligible for the State's Family Health Insurance Assistance Program (FHIAP) FHIAP pays 50%-95% of the monthly insurance premium for private health insurance. Oregon Prescription Drug Program allows any Oregonian without Rx coverage to enroll and obtain drugs at lower cost.

Please describe why someone applying to graduate school who is interested in a female-friendly department should choose your department.

The department fosters a collegial atmosphere and sponsors faculty-student get-togethers, picnics, and various student club activities.
