Pittsburg State University

How many tenure-track or tenured faculty -- male/female?

4/1 plus 1 female full time lecturer

How many graduate students-- male/female?

6/1

How many post doctoral associates - male/female?

None

Is there a family leave policy for graduate students? If so, describe.

Not a paid leave, but any student can skip and return with no penalty.

Is there family health insurance for graduate students? If so, is it included in the stipend?

Yes. Department pays for half.

Please describe why someone applying to graduate school who is interested in a female-friendly department should choose your department.

The department caters to special student interests in physics or its applications and will structure classes to meet them, even if we do not have an explicit emphasis area in our catalog. All the science and math departments have female faculty, many of whom contribute to an active Women's Studies Certificate program on campus, which includes two courses on women's issues in our undergraduate general education requirements. A majority of our students are non-traditional, including many women returning from the workplace. We are in a relatively low-crime, rural setting with good schools and child care available.

Has the institution had a Climate for Women in Physics Site Visit or Gender Equity Conversation?

No
