Please describe why someone applying to graduate school who is interested in a female-friendly department should choose your department.
Georgia State University, in the heart of downtown Atlanta, is fortunate to have a student population that is extremely diverse and comprised of many members of underrepresented groups. We have a university-wide focus to celebrate diversity and the unique perspectives that people with different backgrounds and life experiences can bring to the table.
Within the Physics and Astronomy Department, we believe that the success of our female graduate students visibly demonstrates the supportive atmosphere and personal attention that our faculty provide. Among our current female graduate students, we have two National Science Foundation Graduate Fellows, one Department of Energy Science Graduate Fellow, and several others with University-sponsored fellowships. We are always on the lookout for talented women who would like to consider joining our team.
Has the institution had a Climate for Women in Physics Site Visit or Gender Equity Conversation?
