Yes, health insurance is provided. This is not part of the stipend, but is covered either by the College, or through fellowship and/or grant support.

Please describe why someone applying to graduate school who is interested in a female-friendly department should choose your department.

The Indiana University Physics Department strives to provide a collegial, friendly environment for students during their graduate studies. Students are treated as colleagues, in keeping with the vital role they play in the research and academic missions of the department. Active Women in Science and Women in Physics chapters provide a forum for female students and faculty to discuss issues that women in the sciences continue to face today. Finally, the Indiana University Physics Department has a proven track record in preparing students for successful careers in Physics, with numerous female IU alumni now in place in the scientific ranks.
