I grew up in the southernmost part of Texas, and, in the beginning, I was absolutely terrible at math and science. It wasn’t until I saw a documentary about the wonders of our galaxy that I really became interested in these fields, and from there my interest took off, defining my whole high school experience. I am currently attending the University of Texas at Brownsville, and I am enjoying every second of it. Currently, I work in a lab that is highly involved with the LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational Observatory) project, and I myself am in the LIGO Scientific Collaboration. My most recent project is working with FPGA’s (Field Programmable Gate Arrays), which are very useful for number-crunching and simulation. I can’t wait to see what the future holds, and what we’ve yet to discover.
