Sabrina Rosa-Ortiz

Background:

My name is Sabrina M. Rosa-Ortiz.  I am a senior at the Petra Mercado High School in Humacao, Puerto Rico and will begin my studies in Physics Applied to Electronics in the Fall at the University of Puerto Rico in Humacao (UPRH). 

Since 2010, I have been involved in a research project dealing with the preparation of composites of Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) and polymers. My research mentor is Prof. Idalia Ramos from UPRH and the work is done in collaboration with Dr. Eva Campo from the University of Pennsylvania. I have presented preliminary results of my work in the 2010 PREM Annual Meeting and the 5th Materials Symposium, both held in Humacao. 

In August 2011 I will present my research at the 2011 Nanoscience and Engineering SPIE Conference in San Diego California. The opportunity to do research in materials has convinced me that Physics is the best choice for my undergraduate studies. In the Physics and Electronics Program at UPR-Humacao I will not only acquire a strong background in a fundamental science but will be able to work with applications to other sciences and technology. I also feel very comfortable in the program because I will have many opportunities to continue participating in educational activities, motivate other students and bring science to the communities.

My future goals are to complete my BS degree and continue graduate studies. In the future I would like to become a researcher and educator.
