Background:

My name is Jose Maria Pena, Jr. I am from Edinburg, Texas. I will be studying physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). My ultimate goal is to receive my PhD in nuclear astrophysics and do research at the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) in southern France. The ITER is still under construction and will hopefully be completed by the time I attain my PhD. I believe that I can help change the world through physics. I see all the problems that occur in the world today. Famine, war, poverty; these problems have a common origin. They all involve the competition for energy sources. It seems that all of our problems would be fixed if we had an unlimited supply of energy for everyone to use. I deeply believe that nuclear fusion is the future for our energy consumption and I would like to contribute to this future.
