My name is Olumakinde Ogunnaike and I will be majoring in physics at Harvard University this fall. I have lived in Hockessin, Delaware all my life. My interest in physics began in Kindergarten, when my older brother taught me the particles that constitute an atom, down to the quarks. To me, Physics became a way of understanding the mystery of the universe that surrounds us. It still seems the most direct route, as it probes the very roots of the relations that govern all physical reality. What kept me interested, however, was the beauty and elegance of its framework. That, and a trip in 8th grade to CERN. The patterns and relations revealed by a study of physics inspire in me the same profound awe as the sight of a sunset over the ocean. I hope to shed a little more light on the universe’s enduring questions through the study of quantum mechanics. I am truly honored to have received this distinction.
