My name is Maudi Elaine Martinez. I am originally from Austin, TX, and currently attending the University of Houston. I am married and have 3 children, two girls and a boy. My oldest daughter attends San Jacinto College South, with plans to transfer to the University of Houston, and my other is a senior at Dobie High School. My youngest son is in 5th grade. My husband is a graduate from University of Houston School of Engineering. He works for Boeing, contracted by NASA. My family inspires me to not only meet my education goals, but to excel at them. My husband has encouraged me to further my education and has set a positive example by completing his degree. I know the long hours I put into studying are not only going to help me to be successful, but will also help to set an example for my children. My decision to major in physics came one Saturday afternoon while watching the Discovery Channel. The scientists were discussing topics such as black holes and gamma rays. It sparked my curiosity. I did some research on the internet concerning these space anomalies and found out that it was physicists who perform this type of research. I then looked into the Physics program at the University of Houston and read some articles concerning their space physics group. I am looking forward to graduating and working for NASA.
