Hasan Korre

Background:

Hasan Korre is a rising sophomore at Harvard College. He graduated as the valedictorian from Southwest Dekalb High School in Decatur, Ga.

Hasan first became interested in physics when he took the class as a junior in high school. He enjoys not only the blend between math and science but also the diversity of skills required of those who study physics. He is fascinated by the ability of physics to explain the natural world.

This summer Hasan was awarded Harvard's 2006 Herchel Smith Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship and is part of the inaugural group of Harvard's Program for Research in Science and Engineering (PRISE). He is using the fellowship to work in the laboratory of Professor Jenny Hoffman at Harvard. Under the tutelage of grad student Sang Chu, Hasan is helping to build a low-temperature magnetic force microscope (MFM). The MFM will be used to study vortices in high temperature superconductors.

In his free time Hasan enjoys playing intramural sports and jogging. Through the Harvard service group ExperiMentors, he teaches science to kindergartners at a local elementary school. He hopes the children will develop a greater curiosity for science and will continue to explore the physical world. Hasan also enjoys dancing and has joined the Harvard Breakers Association.
