Sharon Doku

Background:

Sharon Doku is a lover of science and will major in physics because the physical laws of the universe fascinate her. She enjoys problem solving, and wants to help provide solutions to the problems of the world like so many physicists have already done. She is a graduate of the International Baccalaureate Program at Myers Park High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. As a first generation American (her parents are from Ghana, Africa), she is ecstatic to be attending Harvard College this fall. She has graduated from high school with honors: this includes class valedictorian, National Honor Society member, Mu Alpha Theta Vice-President, German Honor Society Co-President, and 2001 Carrousel Queen of the Carolinas. She is also the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships; she is a National Achievement Finalist, an AP Scholar with Distinction, Rotary Youth Scholar, and National Urban League Scholar. Now that she is beginning to step into the world, her planned major will help make sense of it; after all, one goal of physics is to explain the physical world in which we live.
