Prize Recipient

John Bardeen

I am originally from Sonoma, California, where I attended a bilingual elementary school with many other Hispanic students like myself. I lived in Sonoma until the age of fourteen, at which point I moved to Napa, California, where I attended Vintage High School. In part, I was inspired to pursue physics by my Great Uncle, after whom I was named. John Bardeen won the Noble Prize in Physics twice. The decisive moment when I became interested in physics was after reading, A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking at the age of 12. Last summer I attended the Minority Introduction to Engineering, Technology and Science Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where I will be attending this fall as a part of the class of 2012. I plan to minor or double major in Philosophy as well.
