Bryan Anenberg
Stanford University

Background:

My name is Bryan Anenberg and I am from Lake Forest, California and I currently attend Stanford University. When I arrived at Stanford I had no intention of majoring in physics, I always thought I would become an engineer. However, after enrolling in the advanced introductory freshman physics series, I was captivated by the mathematical simplicity, beauty, and power of physics. Physics simultaneously satisfied and stimulated my curiosity about the world. I began to draw connections between my intuitive understanding of natural phenomena and the physical theories I learned in class. I felt enlightened and powerful when I first recognized that my stability when riding a bike is explained by the same physics that describes gyroscopes and that the sky is blue because the sunlight passing through the atmosphere stimulates atoms to oscillate as tiny dipoles and emit radiation that goes as frequency to the fourth power and thus in high frequency, blue end of the visible spectrum.
